Acute:chronic workload ratio
Divide this week’s load by the base the athlete has actually built. The ratio is the standard way to spot a spike before it becomes a soft-tissue injury.
Getting the two numbers right
Load is duration × RPE
A 60-minute session at RPE 7 is 420 arbitrary units. Add up every session in the window — training and matches both.
Acute is the last 7 days
One week of work. Rest days count as zero, not as missing: a week with three days off is genuinely a lighter week and the maths should say so.
Chronic is the 21 days BEFORE that — not including this week
This is where most spreadsheets go wrong. If the last 7 days sit inside the chronic window, the same load appears on both sides of the division and drags the ratio toward 1.00, hiding the spike you were looking for. Priveo uses uncoupled windows for exactly this reason.
A low ratio is not a good score
Under 0.8 means the athlete has not built a protective base. That is a different problem from a spike, not the absence of one.

The ratio is one of five lanes Priveo computes overnight for every athlete, so you open your phone to a board that is already ranked rather than a spreadsheet you have to maintain.
